Revealing the Racists: Planned Parenthood at the Top of the List

Although the prosecutor has not completed her investigation and identified the facts it seems that many have already determined George Zimmerman is guilty of a criminal act in the death of Trayvon Martin.  Mr. Zimmerman has been declared a racist and the tragedy has incited tremendous passion and an outcry for justice and an end to prejudice against the African American community.

I’m all in favor of ending prejudice and racial discrimination but I’d prefer to start in an area where the facts are already clear and indisputable and where the media cannot alter the collected data to sway public opinion. The CDC reports that of the approximately 4,000 abortions that are performed daily in the United States, 1,452 of them are performed on African American women and their pre-born children. This means that although African Americans represent only 12% of the population of the United States, they account for 35% of the abortions performed in this country.  Since 1973 when abortion was legalized on a national level, heart disease has claimed the lives of 2,266,789 African Americans, cancer- 1,638,350, accidents -370,723, AIDS-203,695, and violent crimes-306, 313.  In the same time period abortion has snuffed out over 13 million African-Americans.

In 2011, Mark Crutcher of Life Dynamics published a survey of all U.S. ZIP codes where Planned Parenthood clinics are located in the United States found that most are located in areas with a minority population significantly higher than the state average.  This survey bolstered the claim of the film Maafa21 which outlined how the family planning movement is rooted in 20th-century eugenicism that was aimed at reducing minority populations, a goal Planned Parenthood’s business strategy reflects to the present day.

I won’t hold my breath waiting for the media to run headlines about the racial discrimination that drives Planned Parenthood but the facts speak for themselves.

Amnesia? Ignorance? Rebellion? Exactly What is Wrong at Villanova University?

Villanova just can’t seem to get anything right these days.  If it’s not a gay performance artist lined up to corrupt the minds and morals of the students then it’s promoting the PRO-ABORTION agenda of a former student.  What is going on in Father Donohue’s mind?  Has he lost it completely?  Is he that blind to his Church’s teachings?  Or is he just rebelling like a little child who wants his own way and doesn’t care what he has been taught?

Let’s get back down on our knees and pray for Father Peter Donohue, OSA and let God do the rest.  Let’s face it – this one requires a miracle!

The Connection Between Abortion and Contraception

by Anne Lotierzo (originally published in the Stuart News, 3/16/12)

Oh, would that there were a full force of ignorance police that protected the public from the likes of uninformed letter writers! Once again the pro-life community is called upon to reiterate that which has been spoken loud and clear ad nauseam. There is a documented connection between contraception and abortion that is supported by medical fact. Continue reading

Do Villanovans Understand Church Teaching?

A refresher (or perhaps, introduction?) to Church teaching on homosexuality for Villanova administrators, faculty, and students:

Science has not yet established the degree to which homosexual tendencies are learned or inborn. It is likely to be a combination of both factors, like alcoholism is. In the latter case, there is a genetic predisposition to alcoholism, but it takes a process of conditioning and experience with alchohol to develop the addiction.

Sexual drives are built into the human race biologically, but among humans sex is subject to a great deal of cognitive conditioning. Responses to particular stimuli (body shapes, facial features, hair colors, clothing) are largely learned and vary widely from individual to individual, and even from time to time in a single individual’s life. This degree of cognitive involvement in sexual behavior is not found among lower life forms, whose sexual behavior is almost entirely instinctual and has few cognitive factors involved in it.

There may be genetic, hormonal, or neurological factors toward which produce a predisposition toward homosexual desires, but some degree of learning and conditioned response is almost certainly involved (as in human sexuality generally). Because of this ambiguity, the Catechism of the Catholic Churchstates that homosexuality’s “psychological genesis remains largely unexplained” (CCC 2357).

It is important to realize that homosexuals do not have complete, voluntary control over their desires. Of course, they have control over their actions, as do heterosexuals. After a person has been conditioned to homosexual responses, it is impossible to simply wish away the desires, just as it is impossible for an alcoholic to wish away his desire to be drunk. (It should be noted that heterosexuals do not have complete control over their desires either.)

Homosexuals also do not make a conscious choice to have homosexual tendencies. Nobody says, “I think I’ll become a homosexual!” any more than anyone says, “I think I’ll become an alcoholic!” Homosexual desires may come about as a result of certain choices the individual makes (such as thinking about members of the same sex in a certain way or engaging in homosexual behavior), just as alcoholic desires may come about as the result of certain choices the individual has made (such as frequently choosing to get drunk), but virtually no one consciously chooses to become a homosexual or an alchoholic as a goal and then intentionally cultivates the corresponding desires.

For this reason, the Catechism states, “The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. They do not choose their homosexual condition; for most of them it is a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. The persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition” (CCC 2358).

While they may not choose their desires, homosexuals do have the ability to choose whether they act on those desires, just as an alcholic has the choice of whether to act on his desire to get drunk and just as a heterosexual has the choice of acting on his desires. For this reason, the Catechism states, “Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, traditions has always declared that homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered. They are contrary to natural law . . . . Under no circumstances can they be approved . . . . Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection” (CCC 2357, 2359).

Regarding God’s involvement in the origin of homosexuality: He is not the source of such temptations, just as he is not the source of temptation in general: “Let no one say when he is tempted, ‘I am tempted by God’; for God cannot be tempted with evil and he himself tempts no one” (Jas. 1:13). Adam is the source of the temptations we feel. It is because of his sin that we have inherited a corrupt nature (Rom. 5:19).

Novena (Day 9) for the Conversion of Villanova University and Father Peter Donohue, OSA

(Note: We add the extra intention for the conversion of the Villanova students who see fit to mock Christ in their comments sent in as commentary to this blog.)

Today is Day 9  of our Novena, please offer any masses, time in adoration, and fasting for this special intention during the next nine days. Pray for the cancellation of all anti-Catholic events, clubs, and meetings at Villanova University. Pray also that this conversion and return to authentic Catholicism be complete and permanent, for all university staff and students.

Novena Prayers in Honor of Saint John Neumann

Saint John Neumann, acknowledging our dependence on almighty God and recognizing the power of your intercession, we come to you because many have been answered through your intercession. You were an inspiration to all who knew you. You went whereever the care of souls required your presence. You were obedient to God and man. You were always and example of charity and sacrifice. It was your life of virtue which merited a place in heaven. As we submit to the will of God our Father in heaven, we pray that our petitions be granted for His honor and glory and for the salvation of souls.

Saint John Neumann, pray for us.

Saint John Neumann, manifest yourself to all who seek your help. Teach us to prefer God in everything we do. Protect us from spiritual and temporal harm. Alleviate sufferings of the poor, the aged and the infirm. Make us realize the importance of truth, humility and patience. Many times you experienced the sorrows of life, and yet you overcame those trials. Show us how to overcome our anxieties and tribulations. We want to grow in faith, hope and love. Never let us forget that we are temples of the Holy Spirit. May we always be worthy of that honor.

Saint John Neumann, intercede for us.

Saint John Neumann, you had great devotion to Eucharistic Lord. Pray that we may know and love the Eucharist as you did. Give strength and courage to the Vicar of Christ. Protect our bishops, priests and religious. May all peoples be zealous for the kingdom of God. Enlighten the minds of people who seek truth. Lead them to the path of justice. How good it is to know that you will never forget our families, relatives and friends. Protect our loved ones away from home. May your prayers comfort the souls of our departed brethren. Saint John Neumann, pray that we may may live and die in the state of grace.

Look upon us with favor, Saint John Neumann, we claim you as our very own. You are familiar with places where we live, work and pray. As a priest you lived here among our forefathers. You taught them. You blessed them. You prayed for them. How often they gathered to pray with you. You did this so that they might enjoy the glories of heaven. Just as our predecessors came to you, so now we come to you. We are confident you will not disappoint us. Pray for our intentions.

(Pause and reflect upon your intentions.)

Whatever God grants through your intercession, we accept with a deep sense of gratitude. We thank Him, we praise Him. We want to be with Him forever.

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Let us pray:

Almighty God, you placed the holy confessor, Saint John Neumann, among the elect of your sanctuary. May his life be an inspiration to all who seek eternal glory. May our prayers be answered through his intercession. May they be answered not only through his intercession, but most especially through the merits of Jesus Christ. Who lives forever and ever. Amen.

Prayers for Saint John Neumann Intercession

O my God, I adore your infinite Majesty, with all the powers of my soul. I thank you for the graces and gifts which You bestowed upon your faithful servant, Saint John Neumann, I ask you to glorify him also on earth. For this end I beseech you to grant me the favor which I humbly ask from Your Fatherly mercy. Amen.

The Favor: Please cancel all anti-Catholic events at Villanova, and guide the administration, most especially Father Peter Donohue, OSA, towards a complete embrace of Catholic teaching.

WANTED: Authentic Catholic Teaching at Villanova University

(Note: This was posted in a public forum, we presume that the author is Father Peter Donohue, OSA.  If he didn’t write it, we’d be glad to take it down.)

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

Many of you have asked me to address our recent decision to cancel the workshop/performance by Tim Miller. While it was difficult and complex, I stand by this decision. I want to be clear that this had nothing to do with Mr. Miller’s sexual orientation, and I believe it is untrue that Villanova is a homophobic community. Such a description concerns me far more than a cancellation.

The decision not to host Mr. Miller came after viewing his performance work and the manner in which he conveys his messages. The interpretation of art is open to debate. All art should provoke a response. As a theatre director, I have faced the issue of how to evoke such a response in a way that I deem appropriate for myself, my actors and audiences. There are always issues around language, content and production elements that need to be addressed. These choices are important in creating art.

As an artist and a priest, I find the choices that Mr. Miller makes to be disturbing. While some may disagree, as president of Villanova University I can assure you it is the explicit, graphic and sexual content of his performances that led to this decision—a decision that in no way was affected by issues of sexual orientation.

As a Catholic community, we uphold and must maintain the Church’s teaching that all people are accepted with respect, compassion and sensitivity. Love of neighbor—of all neighbors—is a Gospel mandate we protect. Villanova is and always will be an inclusive community.

Sincerely,

Fr. Peter Donohue, O.S.A.
President

——–

Dear Father Donohue,

While it is indeed true that we LOVE all people and treat them with respect, compassion and sensitivity, we do not accept all of their sinful behaviors.  If that were the case, would you bother sitting in the confessional at all?

Do the students a favor, and read what the Church teaches on homosexuality.  If you cannot embrace it, uphold it and teach it to others, I know a few Episcopalians who are in need of a leader.

Taken From Catholic Answers

Every human being is called to receive a gift of divine sonship, to become a child of God by grace. However, to receive this gift, we must reject sin, including homosexual behavior—that is, acts intended to arouse or stimulate a sexual response regarding a person of the same sex. The Catholic Church teaches that such acts are always violations of divine and natural law.

Homosexual desires, however, are not in themselves sinful. People are subject to a wide variety of sinful desires over which they have little direct control, but these do not become sinful until a person acts upon them, either by acting out the desire or by encouraging the desire and deliberately engaging in fantasies about acting it out. People tempted by homosexual desires, like people tempted by improper heterosexual desires, are not sinning until they act upon those desires in some manner.

Divine Law

The rejection of homosexual behavior that is found in the Old Testament is well known. In Genesis 19, two angels in disguise visit the city of Sodom and are offered hospitality and shelter by Lot. During the night, the men of Sodom demand that Lot hand over his guests for homosexual intercourse. Lot refuses, and the angels blind the men of Sodom. Lot and his household escape, and the town is destroyed by fire “because the outcry against its people has become great before the Lord” (Gen. 19:13).

Throughout history, Jewish and Christian scholars have recognized that one of the chief sins involved in God’s destruction of Sodom was its people’s homosexual behavior. But today, certain homosexual activists promote the idea that the sin of Sodom was merely a lack of hospitality. Although inhospitality is a sin, it is clearly the homosexual behavior of the Sodomites that is singled out for special criticism in the account of their city’s destruction. We must look to Scripture’s own interpretation of the sin of Sodom.

Jude 7 records that Sodom and Gomorrah “acted immorally and indulged in unnatural lust.” Ezekiel says that Sodom committed “abominable things” (Ezek. 16:50), which could refer to homosexual and heterosexual acts of sin. Lot even offered his two virgin daughters in place of his guests, but the men of Sodom rejected the offer, preferring homosexual sex over heterosexual sex (Gen. 19:8–9). Ezekiel does allude to a lack of hospitality in saying that Sodom “did not aid the poor and needy” (Ezek. 16:49). So homosexual acts and a lack of hospitality both contributed to the destruction of Sodom, with the former being the far greater sin, the “abominable thing” that set off God’s wrath.

But the Sodom incident is not the only time the Old Testament deals with homosexuality. An explicit condemnation is found in the book of Leviticus: “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination. . . . If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death, their blood is upon them” (Lev. 18:22, 20:13).

Reinterpreting Scripture

To discount this, some homosexual activists have argued that moral imperatives from the Old Testament can be dismissed since there were certain ceremonial requirements at the time—such as not eating pork, or circumcising male babies—that are no longer binding.

While the Old Testament’s ceremonial requirements are no longer binding, its moral requirements are. God may issue different ceremonies for use in different times and cultures, but his moral requirements are eternal and are binding on all cultures.

Confirming this fact is the New Testament’s forceful rejection of homosexual behavior as well. In Romans 1, Paul attributes the homosexual desires of some to a refusal to acknowledge and worship God. He says, “For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a base mind and to improper conduct. . . . Though they know God’s decree that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do them but approve those who practice them” (Rom. 1:26–28, 32).

Elsewhere Paul again warns that homosexual behavior is one of the sins that will deprive one of heaven: “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Cor. 6:9–10, NIV).

All of Scripture teaches the unacceptability of homosexual behavior. But the rejection of this behavior is not an arbitrary prohibition. It, like other moral imperatives, is rooted in natural law—the design that God has built into human nature.

Natural Law

People have a basic, ethical intuition that certain behaviors are wrong because they are unnatural. We perceive intuitively that the natural sex partner of a human is another human, not an animal.

The same reasoning applies to the case of homosexual behavior. The natural sex partner for a man is a woman, and the natural sex partner for a woman is a man. Thus, people have the corresponding intuition concerning homosexuality that they do about bestiality—that it is wrong because it is unnatural.

Natural law reasoning is the basis for almost all standard moral intuitions. For example, it is the dignity and value that each human being naturally possesses that makes the needless destruction of human life or infliction of physical and emotional pain immoral. This gives rise to a host of specific moral principles, such as the unacceptability of murder, kidnapping, mutilation, physical and emotional abuse, and so forth.

“I Was Born This Way”

Many homosexuals argue that they have not chosen their condition, but that they were born that way, making homosexual behavior natural for them.

But because something was not chosen does not mean it was inborn. Some desires are acquired or strengthened by habituation and conditioning instead of by conscious choice. For example, no one chooses to be an alcoholic, but one can become habituated to alcohol. Just as one can acquire alcoholic desires (by repeatedly becoming intoxicated) without consciously choosing them, so one may acquire homosexual desires (by engaging in homosexual fantasies or behavior) without consciously choosing them.

Since sexual desire is subject to a high degree of cognitive conditioning in humans (there is no biological reason why we find certain scents, forms of dress, or forms of underwear sexually stimulating), it would be most unusual if homosexual desires were not subject to a similar degree of cognitive conditioning.

Even if there is a genetic predisposition toward homosexuality (and studies on this point are inconclusive), the behavior remains unnatural because homosexuality is still not part of the natural design of humanity. It does not make homosexual behavior acceptable; other behaviors are not rendered acceptable simply because there may be a genetic predisposition toward them.

For example, scientific studies suggest some people are born with a hereditary disposition to alcoholism, but no one would argue someone ought to fulfill these inborn urges by becoming an alcoholic. Alcoholism is not an acceptable “lifestyle” any more than homosexuality is.

 The Ten Percent Argument

Homosexual activists often justify homosexuality by claiming that ten percent of the population is homosexual, meaning that it is a common and thus acceptable behavior.

But not all common behaviors are acceptable, and even if ten percent of the population were born homosexual, this would prove nothing. One hundred percent of the population is born with original sin and the desires flowing from it. If those desires manifest themselves in a homosexual fashion in ten percent of the population, all that does is give us information about the demographics of original sin.

But the fact is that the ten percent figure is false. It stems from the 1948 report by Alfred Kinsey, Sexual Behavior in the Human Male. The study was profoundly flawed, as later psychologists studying sexual behavior have agreed. Kinsey’s subjects were drawn heavily from convicted criminals; 1,400 of his 5,300 final subjects (twenty-six percent) were convicted sex offenders—a group that by definition is not representative of normal sexual practices.

Furthermore, the ten percent figure includes people who are not exclusively homosexual but who only engaged in some homosexual behavior for a period of time and then stopped—people who had gone through a fully or partially homosexual “phase” but who were not long-term homosexuals. (For a critique of Kinsey’s research methods, see Kinsey, Sex, and Fraud, by Dr. Judith Reisman and Edward Eichel [Lafayette, Louisiana: Lochinvar & Huntington House, 1990].)

Recent and more scientifically accurate studies have shown that only around one to two percent of the population is homosexual.

“You’re Just a Homophobe”

Those opposed to homosexual behavior are often charged with “homophobia”—that they hold the position they do because they are “afraid” of homosexuals. Sometimes the charge is even made that these same people are perhaps homosexuals themselves and are overcompensating to hide this fact, even from themselves, by condemning other homosexuals.

Both of these arguments attempt to stop rational discussion of an issue by shifting the focus to one of the participants. In doing so, they dismiss another person’s arguments based on some real or supposed attribute of the person. In this case, the supposed attribute is a fear of homosexuals.

Like similar attempts to avoid rational discussion of an issue, the homophobia argument completely misses the point. Even if a person were afraid of homosexuals, that would not diminish his arguments against their behavior. The fact that a person is afraid of handguns would not nullify arguments against handguns, nor would the fact that a person might be afraid of handgun control diminish arguments against handgun control.

Furthermore, the homophobia charge rings false. The vast majority of those who oppose homosexual behavior are in no way “afraid” of homosexuals. A disagreement is not the same as a fear. One can disagree with something without fearing it, and the attempt to shut down rational discussion by crying “homophobe!” falls flat. It is an attempt to divert attention from the arguments against one’s position by focusing attention on the one who made the arguments, while trying to claim the moral high ground against him.

 The Call to Chastity

The modern arguments in favor of homosexuality have thus been insufficient to overcome the evidence that homosexual behavior is against divine and natural law, as the Bible and the Church, as well as the wider circle of Jewish and Christian (not to mention Muslim) writers, have always held.

The Catholic Church thus teaches: “Basing itself on sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered. They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2357).

However, the Church also acknowledges that “[homosexuality’s] psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. . . . The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s cross the difficulties that they may encounter from their condition.

“Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection” (CCC 2357– 2359).

Paul comfortingly reminds us, “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it” (1 Cor. 10:13).

Homosexuals who want to live chastely can contact Courage, a national, Church-approved support group for help in deliverance from the homosexual lifestyle.

Villanova Cancels Gay Artist Workshop: Is That Enough?

In a statement released yesterday, Villanova University announced that it had cancelled the planned visit of gay performance artist Tim Miller for April.  I applaud this decision but the cynic in me questions the motivations behind the university’s apparent “deathbed” conversion.

If, (as I suspect) Father Donohue simply bowed to pressure from parents, alumni, and a bishop, Villanova is no more “Catholic” than it was two days ago.   His statement was noticeably void of any apology for the lack of good judgment in issuing the invitation to a shameless gay activist in the first place.  Tim Miller is no stranger to the public eye, and Father Donohue was certainly aware of Mr. Miller’s on and off the stage antics mocking the teachings and traditions that the Catholic Church holds as sacred.  Mr. Miller makes no attempt to hide his views on homosexuality and abortion, nor does he attempt to veil his identity as a homosexual living with a male gay partner for many years. Despite this obvious clash with Catholic values, Mr. Miller held an invitation to appear with honor at Villanova and teach students.  And now, apparently after some top-notch detective work, Father Donohue has discovered that Mr. Miller’s performances are “not in keeping with (our) Catholic and Augustinian values and mission.”

I’m not buying it.

The statement makes no mention of a promise to exercise caution and better judgment in the future, nor is there any sign of hope that Villanova will draft and implement a policy to prevent further disgrace and mockery of the Church.  We are reassured however, that Villanova remains an “open and inclusive community” (translation: “Villanova promises to never call homosexuality a sin and all who choose to embrace this sin are free to do so here without ever fearing that we may speak the truth to them.”) where “intellectual freedom and academic discourse” reign as King and Queen while Christ and His Holy Church get the proverbial back seats on the bus.

Father Donohue’s withdrawal of Mr. Miller’s invitation is welcome but it is simply not the genuine conversion of heart that is required for absolution.

A good and holy priest once told me, “Anne, before you seek absolution, seek honesty.” Head back to the confessional Father Donohue, and examine your conscience without fear – Christ is merciful.

Where Does Villanova University Stand on Abortion?

Villanova University, a “CATHOLIC” (well, so they say…) University is preparing to host gay performance artist Tim Miller as an artist in residence this coming April.  His homosexual lifestyle is not the only question of morality that is up for review.  See below for his evident support of abortion:

As for the nudity in his performance, Miller says, “Someone could say about my show, `Why don’t you just clean it up and keep your pants on?’ But it’s very organic what I do, and I feel it’s important right now. I think the cultural battle in this culture is about the body – whether it’s abortion rights, or gays in the military, or art. It’s about some people’s desire to control our bodies, and their panic when they can’t.”
